It is our recommendation to stay in small groups and to take taxis to and from restaurants, or during night time excursions, as they are the safest and easiest way to avoid any issues one might encounter on the streets after dark. In addition, always leave your passport (It’s better to carry a photocopy of it instead), credit cards and money that you won't be using in the hotel. Many of the hotels we use have safety deposit boxes in the room, or a general one at reception, this is always the safest method of storing your valuables. We strongly recommend the use of a neck wallet or money belt while travelling, for the safe keeping of your passport, air tickets, travellers' cheques, cash and other valuable items. Remember that like in any other city, you should never leave your bags unattended, nor flaunt jewellery, cameras etc
. A lock is recommended for securing your luggage. When travelling on a group trip, please note that your CEO has the authority to amend or cancel any part of the trip itinerary if it is deemed necessary due to safety concerns. Your CEO will accompany you on all included activities. During your trip you will have some free time to pursue your own interests, relax and take it easy or explore at your leisure. While your CEO will assist you with options available in a given location please note that any optional activities you undertake are not part of your itinerary, and we offer no representations about the safety of the activity or the standard of the operators running them. Please use your own good judgment when selecting an activity in your free time. Stick to the main streets only during the day, and after sundown, please take a taxi. Taxis can be organized from reception of your hotel. Also, take the address of the hotel with you. Protests and Demonstrations- Protests and demonstrations, even those that are well intended, have the potential to turn violent with no warning. Counter protests can also turn violent. Action by security forces to disperse demonstrators and protesters may occur at any time. If you are in an area where demonstrators or protesters are gathering, avoid the temptation of staying for a good photo opportunity and leave the area immediately. Water based activities have an element of danger and excitement built into them. We recommend only participating in water based activities when accompanied by a guide(s). We make every reasonable effort to ensure the fun and adventurous element of any water based activities (in countries with varying degrees of operating standards) have a balanced approach to safety. It is our policy not to allow our CEOs to make arrangements on your behalf for water based activities that are not accompanied by guide(s). Swimming, including snorkeling, is always at your own risk. The exploitation of prostitutes is completely contrary to this philosophy. Our CEOs have the right to expel any member of the group if drugs are found in their possession or if they use prostitutes.Reiseversicherung: Travel Insurance: Travel insurance is compulsory in order to participate on any of our trips. When travelling on a group trip, you will not be permitted to join the group until evidence of travel insurance has been sighted by your CEO, who will take note of your insurance details. When selecting a travel insurance policy please bear in mind that all clients must have medical coverage and that we require a minimum coverage of USD 200,000 for repatriation and emergency rescue. We strongly recommend that the policy also covers personal liability, cancellation, curtailment and loss of luggage and personal effects. Einreisebestimmungen:

• Reisepapiere u.a.
  EU-Bürger und Schweizer benötigen einen Reisepass, der nach der Ausreise noch mindestens 6 Monate gültig sein muss. Staatsbürger anderer Nationen müssen in jedem Fall die für sie gültigen Einreisebedingungen bei der jeweiligen Botschaft/Konsulat erfragen, da gesonderte Bestimmungen gelten.
• Seit 2.12.2013 muss bei der Ausreise über den Landweg nach Panama oder Nicaragua eine Ausreisesteuer von US$ 7 bezahlt werden. Die Steuer kann entweder in Bankfilialen von Bancrédito und Coopealianza persönlich unter Vorlage des Passes bezahlt werden oder an Automaten direkt an der Grenze, wobei dort mit Warteschlangen zu rechnen ist. Nach Möglichkeit legen wir mit unseren Wanderführern eine Stopp bei einer Bank ein, bei der diese Steuer beglichen werden kann. Auch bei der Rückreise nach Costa Rica ist eine Gebühr von derzeit 11 US$ zu entrichten.

  Bargeld kann bei allen Banken und in vielen Hotels getauscht werden. Ebenso werden die gängigen Kreditkarten (Visa, MasterCard) wie auch US$-Travellerschecks akzeptiert. Grundsätzlich ist an den Bankschaltern mit längeren Wartezeiten zu rechnen. In der Hauptstadt und in größeren Orten findet man Geldautomaten, an denen mit einer EC-Karte oder Kreditkarte Bargeld abgehoben werden kann. In größeren Geschäften und Hotels kann man oftmals auch mit US$ bezahlen. Empfohlene Zahlungsmittel: US$ in bar, EC-Karte, Kreditkarte.
• Nicaragua
  Mittlerweile akzeptieren Geldautomaten in Nicaragua neben Kreditkarten oftmals auch EC-Karten mit Maestro.
  Generell ist die Mitnahme von US$ für Ihre Reise nach Nicaragua empfehlenswert. Der Umtausch von US$ in bar ist bei fast allen Bankem möglich. Die Banken haben in der Regel zwischen 9 und 15 Uhr geöffnet. Bitte vergessen Sie beim Geldwechsel Ihren Reisepass nicht und bringen Sie für alle Bankschaltergeschäfte etwas Geduld mit. Kreditkarten werden in größeren Städten, Hotels und Restaurants akzeptiert. Mit VISA können Sie fast überall bezahlen, Mastercard wird häufig ebenfalls angenommen.
• Klima
  Costa Rica und Nicaragua sind tropische Länder mit zwei Jahreszeiten. Nach ihrer heimatlichen Erfahrung nannten die Spanier die trockenen, heißen Monate - hier Dezember bis April - verano, „Sommer“. Invierno („Winter“) steht für die Regenzeit von Mai bis November. Die kurze, trockenere Periode im Juli/August heißt veranillo, „kleiner Sommer“. Costa Rica und Nicaragua können das ganze Jahr über bereist werden. Die Vormittage sind auch zur Regenzeit meist sonnig, erst gegen Mittag ziehen Wolken auf, die sich am Nachmittag und frühen Abend in mehr oder weniger heftigen Aguaceros, Platzregen, entladen. Danach klart der Himmel wieder auf. Die Tagestemperaturen liegen bei durchschnittliche 28°C und nachts sinkt das Thermometer auf ca. 15°C ab. Im Gebirge können die Temperaturen nachts auch unter dem Gefrierpunkt sinken.
• Die trockenste Zeit ist zwischen Dezember und April, daher haben sich diese Monate als beliebteste Reisezeit für Costa Rica und Nicaragua durchgesetzt. Es kann zwar auch in dieser Zeit regnen, die Niederschlagshäufigkeit ist jedoch geringer als während der Regenzeit. Während der Trockenzeit ist in manchen Landesteilen, speziell in den niedrigeren Regionen, mit hohen Temperaturen zu rechnen.
• Im Juli und im August sind die Niederschläge weit schwächer als während der restlichen Regenzeit. Es regnet zwar häufiger als etwa in der Zeit zwischen Januar und April, jedoch hat auch eine Reise zu dieser Zeit ihre entscheidenden Vorteile. Vielerorts ist die Vegetation wesentlich üppiger und das Land weniger ausgedörrt als in der Trockenzeit und es ist in den Niederungen deutlich weniger heiß als während der Monate Januar bis April.
• Bei dieser Reise bewegen Sie sich in sehr unterschiedlichen Höhenregionen. Dementsprechend sind während der Reise auch mit sehr unterschiedlichen Temperaturen zu rechnen. In den Bergen kann es kühl werden mit Nachttemperaturen um 10 Grad C, in den Küstenregionen ist es meist warm und schwül mit Temperaturen über 30 Grad C. Dementsprechend sollten Sie für diese Temperaturbereiche kleidungsmäßig gerüstet sein.

Treffpunkt: In San José werden Sie erwartet. Der ASI-Wanderführer holt Sie am Flughafen ab (achten Sie bitte auf ein ASI-Schild).

• Zweckmäßige Wanderbekleidung (T-Shirts, Trekkinghose, Wandersocken)
• Regen- und Sonnenschutz (Kopfbedeckung, Sonnenbrille, Sonnencreme)
• Stirn- oder Taschenlampe
• Persönliche Medikamente
• Reisetasche oder Koffer (keine großen Hartschalenkoffer)
• 2 Reisepasskopien für den Grenzübertritt nach Nicaragua
